Legal Aid Rates Explained
Complete guide to Legal Aid Agency translation rates. Transparent pricing with no hidden fees.
Understanding LAA Translation Rates
The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) sets maximum rates for translation services in legally aided cases. These rates are prescribed by regulation and apply to all LAA-funded translation work across England and Wales.
For civil and family cases, translation rates are governed by the Civil Legal Aid (Remuneration) Regulations 2013. The LAA Guidance on the Remuneration of Expert Witnesses confirms that a rate of £100 per 1,000 words is accepted without the need for prior authority.
For criminal cases, rates are set by the Criminal Legal Aid (Remuneration) Regulations 2013 (Schedule 5). The current maximum rate for document translation is £109 per 1,000 words.
We work at these prescribed rates with no hidden fees or surcharges. Certification, formatting, and digital delivery are included in the per-word rate.
